Hawks Drop Second Straight
The Santiago Canyon College softball team hosted the Glendale College Vaqueros on Tuesday afternoon for its final nonconference home game of the season. The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the first inning but failed to sustain the momentum, falling 6–1.
Freshman center fielder Carmen Sanchez led off the bottom of the first with a line-drive double over the left fielder's head to spark the Hawks early. Sophomore shortstop Mikayla Martinez then hit a ground ball to third base that ricocheted into the outfield, allowing Sanchez to score and give SCC a 1–0 lead.
However, the Hawks' offense stalled after the opening inning, as they managed only five more hits over the final six frames and left nine runners on base.
Sophomore starting pitcher Victoria Recendez went the distance and struck out eight batters, marking her best outing since her SCC debut in late January. She allowed six runs (four earned) on nine hits.
The Hawks committed four errors on the day, two of which led to Vaqueros runs.
Offensively, sophomore third baseman Allie Kirkpatrick led the team with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including two doubles. Her first two-bagger nearly cleared the fence but narrowly missed becoming a home run. Martinez recorded the Hawks' lone RBI, while Sanchez scored their only run.
