The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team continued their hot streak with another dominant performance, defeating Bakersfield College 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks controlled possession, limited the Renegades to just two shots, and secured their third straight victory.
Santiago Canyon struck early in the eighth minute when sophomore duo Mia Lussier and Rayleen Chairez combined for the opening goal. Lussier created the chance, sliding a pass into the box that Chairez buried for a 1-0 advantage.
After a scoreless stretch, Lussier doubled the lead in the 49th minute with an individual effort. Driving down the near sideline, she cut inside past a pair of defenders and drilled a right-footed shot to the far post for her first goal contribution of the match.
Bakersfield answered in the 59th minute to cut the deficit in half, but the Hawks' back line—sophomore Karen Pedraza, sophomore Jordyn Gallegos, freshman Melanie Salazar, and freshman Faith Ammann—kept the Renegades at bay the rest of the way. A late free kick chance sailed high, and SCC's defense held firm.
Freshman midfielder Noelle Zuvic anchored the middle of the field, disrupting Bakersfield's build-up play and helping the Hawks maintain possession.
In goal, sophomore Mikayla Worcester (4-0-2) started the first half and turned in a steady performance, before freshman Ayden Keysers closed out the match as she has for much of the season.
