The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team hosted Mt. San Jacinto College on Friday night in a rematch of the 2024 3C2A Southern Regional Playoffs, and the result was just as decisive. The Hawks rolled past the Eagles with a commanding 4-0 victory.
Last season, SCC was ranked No. 11 in the 3C2A Southern Regional playoffs and faced Mt. San Jacinto twice- playing to a 3-3 draw in September before eliminating the Eagles 3-1 in the postseason. With Friday's win, the Hawks improved to 2-0-1 against them over their last three meetings.
Freshman Addison Vallero led the charge with a career-high two goals. She opened the scoring in the 17th minute by pouncing on a loose ball and striking from just outside the box into an open net. Vallero struck again in the 57th minute to extend the Hawks' lead to three.
Sophomore Ayleen Jimenez tallied her first goal of the season in the 32nd minute, while freshman Lexi Kotlar capped the night with an 81st-minute netter to seal the shutout win.
Sophomore Jordyn Gallegos and freshman Faith Ammann anchored the backline attack with strong possession and playmaking, while Karen Pedraza and Melanie Salazar spearheaded the defensive effort that secured the clean sheet.
SCC split time in goal, with sophomore Mikayala Worcester (3-0-2) recording three saves in the first half before freshman Ayden Keysers took over. Keysers added two more stops, including a diving save to her left to preserve the shutout.
