Hawks Cruise Past Palomar in Three Sets
The Santiago Canyon College men's volleyball team completed a season-series sweep of the Palomar College Comets on Friday night, earning a straight-set victory. The Hawks cruised through all three sets, securing their fifth win of the season and fourth conference victory.
Freshman Jack Frame, recently named Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Player of the Week, led the Hawks with 14 kills on 18 attempts, posting a career-high .667 hitting percentage. He added six digs and two service aces. Frame currently leads the conference with 255 kills and a 4.40 kills-per-set average.
Freshman Brayden Payne, who ranks third in the conference with 175 kills and a 3.07 kills-per-set average, finished with nine kills on 18 attempts. Freshmen Logan Gaines and Rodolfo Marrero-Ramos each contributed four kills, with Marrero-Ramos also recording four total blocks.
Head coach Tim Johnson utilized a trio of setters, led by freshman David Martinez. Martinez dished out 15 assists and added four kills, marking a career high, along with four digs.
Freshman Kody Cornish pocketed 10 assists and one kill, while freshman Roen Forbes added six assists. Freshman Brady Hillmar anchored the back row with six digs, while freshman Angel Hernandez saw action in two sets, contributing three digs and a match-sealing ace.
