The Santiago Canyon College men's volleyball team hosted Irvine Valley College on Wednesday night and secured their first home victory of the season with a four-set win. The Hawks showcased strong net play and consistent offense, taking the match 25-17, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20.
SCC dominated at the net, finishing with 17 total blocks. Freshman Logan Campbell led the effort with two solo blocks and four block assists. Freshman Brayden Payne added two solo blocks and two block assists, while freshman Jack Frame contributed one solo block and two assists.
Offensively, Frame and Payne led the charge with 18 kills apiece, combining for 42 points. Payne led the team with 36 attack attempts, followed closely by Frame with 31. Frame also made a strong impact defensively, tallying 10 digs.
Freshman Brady Hillmar recorded a team-high 12 digs, while freshman Kody Cornish added 10 digs. Cornish also orchestrated the offense effectively, posting a career-high 21 assists. Freshman David Martinez contributed 20 assists, giving the Hawks a balanced dual-setter system.
Additional contributions came from freshman Aaron Buckley with four kills, while freshman Logan Gaines and Cornish each added three.
