Streak Snapped in High-Scoring Melee
Despite netting a season-high 96 points in a non-conference battle against the Palomar College Comets, the Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night by the final score of 99-96.
The contest featured 15 lead changes, with the pivotal one coming under the two-minute mark in the second half. The Hawks fell victim to a high-flying Comet offense that shot an even 50 percent from long range and held an overall shooting percentage of 57.1.
Scoring was not the issue for Santiago Canyon, as they featured five players in double digits. Freshman point guard Paris Lassiter recorded a career-high 19 points, marking his first game in double figures. He added five rebounds, five assists, and three steals to his stat line.
Freshman Jacob De Armas knocked down 15 points for his third-straight game in double figures and his fifth overall. He also hauled in five rebounds, collected three steals, and emphatically blocked one shot.
Sophomore Selim Semaan had a slow start to the game, scoring only four points in the first half, but turned it on to finish with 15 points and five rebounds. Freshman Dominic Bolton extended his double-digit scoring streak to three games after finishing with 14 points—just two shy of matching his career-high. He went 4-for-6 from long range.
