The Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team never trailed in its non-conference matchup against the Southwestern College Jaguars on Wednesday night. From the opening tip, when freshman Paris Lassiter assisted on a basket by sophomore Ryan Weber, the Hawks controlled the game for the full 40 minutes, securing a 79–64 victory.
The Hawks' offense was highly efficient inside the three-point line, shooting over 50 percent for the fourth consecutive game. Nearly 60 percent of their points came in the paint, and they outrebounded the Jaguars 45–38. Defensively, the Hawks forced 14 turnovers and converted them into 17 points.
Freshman Jacob De Armas led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds. He also added four steals and two assists. De Armas has now scored in double digits in three of the Hawks' six games and delivered his best road performance of the season.
Freshman Dominic Bolton followed with a strong supporting effort, scoring 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers. Sophomore Salim Semaan added 13 points in 24 minutes. He has now reached double digits in four straight games and five of the last six.
Off the bench, sophomore big man Chico Lopez contributed nine points, while freshman Jayden Oei and Lassiter matched his scoring output in the starting lineup.
