Head Coach Ian Woodhead and the Santiago Canyon College coaching staff have established the Hawks as one of the premier women’s soccer programs in the nation. Since 2004, SCC has captured 16 Orange Empire Conference championships and advanced to the State Final Four 11 times.

In 2025, the Hawks finished as state finalists with a 17-3-5 record and were ranked No. 7 nationally by United Soccer Coaches. The 2022 team won the Orange Empire Conference championship and finished 19-2-2. In 2019, SCC completed its second consecutive state championship season with a 19-3-2 record after posting a perfect 24-0 record in 2018. The Hawks also won a state championship in 2009 and captured the first state title in college history in 2006.

The program’s success extends beyond the field. SCC earned Academic State Championships in 2005, 2006, 2010, and 2012 and was named the 2022 Orange Empire Conference Program of the Year.

Woodhead and his staff were named National Staff of the Year in both 2018 and 2019. He was also selected as Southern California Coach of the Year in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Woodhead has earned Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year honors 11 times, receiving the award in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

His additional honors include the Santiago Canyon College Faculty Excellence Award in 2007 and a nomination for Orange County Community College Teacher of the Year in 2010. Throughout his coaching career, Woodhead has won community college state and national championships in 1999, West Coast Regional State Olympic Development Program championships in 1999 and 2005, and CIF championships in 1996 and 2000. He was named CIF Division III Coach of the Year in 2000.

Woodhead has been involved in coaching education for more than 30 years, conducting local licensing and certification courses for coaches. He earned his U.S. Soccer Federation A License in 1995 and has served as a USSF National Coaching License Instructor since 2009.

He holds a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in physical education, a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in mathematics, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Woodhead and his wife, Katja, have two children, Malena and Lucas.
